Chandigarh, April 9

Local MP Kirron Kher on Monday said parking rates in the city should not be raised until the parking lots were made smart.

“I do not think the parking rates should be increased till the time the parking lots are made smart. Even if they are made smart, the rates should not be hiked in one go. They should be increased gradually so that the people are not burdened,” said the BJP leader.

“I do not interfere in the MC affairs. However, the Mayor and others are bringing the matter to the House. They will assess the situation according to the contract signed with the parking firm,” she said. This is the first time she has made a statement in public regarding the issue.

Slams Bansal

Reacting to former Congress MP Pawan Kumar Bansal’s statement seeking a CBI inquiry into the parking rates issue, Kher sought to know about the CBI inquiries pending against him and his partymen.

“I am not involved in the day-to-day affairs of the MC and have no concern with who was awarded the parking contract. It is very disappointing to see him (Basnal) linking me with this. What about the CBI inquires against them. Recently, one of their councillors was convicted in a case. Bansal should not politicise every issue just because the 2019 elections are near,” she said.

She further went on to ask.”What about the Jaypee waste processing plant. He played an important role in bringing the firm to the city. There was no CBI inquiry into that. The plant is a huge trouble for the residents. It is a problem given by the Congress, which we are trying to fix.” —TNS
