Kharar residents block traffic over poor water supply

To protest against the erratic supply of drinking water, residents of Bhagoomajra Colony that falls within Kharar Municipal limits, blocked traffic on Kharar-Morinda Road for nearly one and half hour today.

They raised an anti-Punjab Government and anti-Municipal Council slogans. Protestors were holding empty buckets in their hands. 

Meanwhile, many residents of the village including Baldev Singh Laddi, Teja Singh, Jarnail Singh, Seema, Premi, Nathi Khan said there was meagre supply of water from last many months, but today, there was not even a single drop of water.

Notably, the village was included in the Kharar Municipal Council in 2011, but the water supply was provided by the Public Health Department here. Guljar Singh, JE of the department, said bore of the tube well was defunct now and drinking water is not available.   

Mohan Pal Singh, an officer of Municipal Council, said the council would provide drinking water through tankers in the village. Sarabjit Kaur, who represents this ward in the Municipal Council, said an estimate to install a new tube well in the village has been passed and work would start in the near future.

 Meanwhile, Ghauran SHO Harbhajan Singh, reached the spot and persuaded the villagers to end their protest to resume the traffic.
