Jigyasa beats Sargam, rallies into quarters

Jigyasa Narsinghani came from behind to beat Sargam Singla in the girls’ U-14 pre-quarterfinal in the ongoing AITA-STA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship at the Chandigarh Club Complex, Sector 1, here, on Tuesday.

Jigyasa lost the first set 3-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-2 7-6(4) to move into the quarterfinals. 

Vedaa Anand registered a 6-4 6-0 win over Vishita K Ranbir, while Ananya Dogra drubbed Jannat Sandhu 6-1 6-1. Vanya Arora downed Rubani K Sidhu 6-3 6-2.

Bhumika Gupta also had an easy outing as she dismissed Sehaj Kaur 6-1 6-1 to seal a spot in the last-eight stage of the competition. Omisha Nischal packed off Vaidehi Narsinghani 6-3 6-0, while Khushi Sharma trounced Simar Atwal 6-0 6-1. 

Pawandeep marches ahead  

In the girls’ U-16 category, Pawandeep Kaur edged out Bhumika Gupta 6-1 6-1 to book a berth in the quarters. 

Vishita overcame Jigyasa 7-6(3) 6-4, while Catherine Bhangu dispatched Sargam Singla 6-3 6-0. Khushi Dewan defeated Ananya Dogra 6-2 7-6(3) to stay in contention for a place in the semifinals.

Vaidehi registered a 6-3 6-2 win over Anusha Verma and Vanya ousted Khushi 6-3 6-3 in the pre-quarters. Omisha Nischal overcame Ananya Sharma 6-0 4-6 6-3. 

Harnoor Sidhu entered the quarterfinals after defeating Jigyasa Menghani 6-0 6-1. 

Yashvardhan advances

In the boys’ U-14 pre-quarterfinals, Yashvardhan Gaur prevailed 6-2 6-2 over Arshveer Sharma, while Rijul Bhatia tamed Kartikeya Saini 6-3 6-3. Yash Jindal overcame Adik Sharma 6-2 3-6 6-4. 

Gurpuneet Singh ousted Aarav Bishnoi 6-4 6-4. Namish Sharma blanked Hriday Pandey 6-0 6-0, while Sidharth humbled Kartik Sunil 6-2 6-1 to enter the quarterfinals.
