Sleuths of the Special Task Force, Mohali, nabbed a local jeweller while carrying 26 gm of heroin here.

The suspect has been identified as Rahul Verma, alias Guru, a resident of Sector 41, Chandigarh.

Rajinder Singh Sohal, Superintendent of Police (STF), said Rahul was running two jewellery shops, one at Sector 41 and the other at Shahimajra village in Mohali.

“During interrogation, it came out that after falling in bad company, Rahul started taking drugs and later became a drug peddler,” said Sohal.

Rahul confessed that he used to bring heroin from a Nigerian at Delhi and used to supply it to his regular customers in Mohali and Chandigarh. Rahul was nabbed from Phase 5 on a tip-off, said the police.

A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against Rahul at the STF police station at Phase 4.
