Mohali, September 20

Pargat Singh scored a composed century as Jalandhar scored 312/2 against Patiala on the opening day of their four-day final match of the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Championship for Katoch Shield at the IS Bindra PCA Satdium here today.

Electing to bat, Jalandhar openers Mansab Gill and Pargat Singh stood up to the decision of their skipper as they laid a solid platform for the batsmen to follow.  On a slow pitch, the duo raised a 103-run partnership for the opening wicket before Rajwinder Singh provided Patiala the breakthrough.

Gill was out after compiling a sedate 45 off 102 balls, which included eight hits to the fence.Skipper Taruwar Kohli then joined Pargat and together they took the score to 222 with a 119-run stand for the second wicket.

The duo was separated when Mayank Markande dismissed Pargat for 127 runs. His 164-ball knock was studded with 15 boundaries and two towering sixes. Pargat’s wicket, however, hardly made any difference for Patiala as incoming Himanshu Sharma was quick to adapt to the conditions.

Along with the skipper, Himanshu added unbeaten 90 runs for the third wicket to close the day at 312/2.  At the draw of stumps, Kohlai was batting on 77, while Himanshu was undefeated on 52. — TNS
