Jaiveer bags rich haul of medals at Delhi Horse Show

Chandigarh: Ten-year-old Jaiveer Makkar brought laurels to the city by winning a rich haul of medals in the Delhi Horse Show, at the Army Polo and Race Course (APRC), organised by the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI).

Chandigarh: Ten-year-old Jaiveer Makkar brought laurels to the city by winning a rich haul of medals in the Delhi Horse Show, at the Army Polo and Race Course (APRC), organised by the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI). He participated in two events of the U-12 category on his horses Royal Flame and Merrie Monarch. In the show jumping event, he first won the silver on Merrie Monarch with a clear round. He timed 56.48s (with a jump of 22.14s) to claim the second spot. He also beat his own record on his other horse Royal Flame again with a clear round and a timing of 56.24s (with a jump off of 24.48s) to claim the gold medal. He also won his second gold medal along with one bronze in the top jump (joker) event. Jaiveer scored a total 1040 points to win the gold medal Royal Flame, while on Merrie Monarch he scored 920 points for the bronze. In hacks (groups –II) event, he won two bronze medals. “I am happy with my performance and now focus on preparing for the Junior National Equestrian Championship, starting from December 20 at Tollygunge (Kolkatta),” said Jaiveer. He is a student of Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26 and trains at the Chandigarh Horse Riding Society (CHRS) Lake Sports Complex.

Gunjan wins wrestling bronze 

Chandigarh: Gunjan Sharma, a student of Sharda Sarvhitkari School Sector 40, won a bronze medal in the 64th School National Games for wrestling. She claimed the third position in the 46kg category of the U-17 group. She will also represent the city in the Khelo India nationals, to be held in January. 

Karthik leads Gladiators to a comfortable 43-run win 

Mohali: In the ongoing Tricity T20 League, Gladiators defeated Spice Digital by 43 runs. Batting first, Gladiators posted 132/8 in allotted 20 overs. Karthik Kapoor (52) and Ashish (26) were the two main run scorers for the side. Madhur claimed 2/16 for the bowling side. In reply, Spice Digital could score 87/9 in allotted 20 overs with the help of Sunil Khunger (21) and Anil (12). Karthik was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 3/14. 

Paras scores ton for IVCA 

Chandigarh: IVCA Cricket Academy, Derabassi, defeated hosts Green Valley Cricket Academy, Kharar, by 137 runs in the ongoing U-14 tournament, on Sunday. Batting first, the Derabassi outfit posted 215/4 in 25 overs. Their innings was bolstered by a 104-run contribution by Paras. Anubhav (60) was the other notable scorer for the side. Madhav and Naman claimed a wicket each for the bowling side. In reply, the Kharar team bundled out on 78 runs. TNS
