IT professional raped by hotel employee

CHANDIGARH: A 27-year-old IT professional, who was staying at Hotel Taj in Sector 17, was allegedly raped by a hotel employee at his rented accommodation in Sector 22.

A 27-year-old IT professional, who was staying at Hotel Taj in Sector 17, was allegedly raped by a hotel employee at his rented accommodation in Sector 22. The victim has also alleged that Rs 23,000 was stolen from her hotel room.

The police received a call from the victim around 7 am informing them that she had been raped and her money stolen. Police teams rushed to the hotel to investigate the case. DSP (Central) Ram Gopal said the victim, employed with an IT company in Jaipur, told the police that Sunny Kumar (29), a contractual employee of Hotel Taj working in the food and beverages department, allegedly raped her at his house in Sector 22.

The police said the victim claimed that it was her birthday and she wanted to buy a cake to celebrate it.

After his shift ended, the accused met the victim outside the hotel. “The victim and the accused went to the latter’s house in Sector 22 to celebrate the birthday where the victim was allegedly raped,” police sources said.

The accused then dropped her back at the hotel in the morning. The police said the victim alleged that on returning to the hotel, she found the cash missing from her room after which she made a call to the police.

According to the police, the victim had checked into the hotel on Monday. She is a native of Madhya Pradesh.

She was taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, for a medical examination. However, she refused to give her consent following which the medical was not conducted.

The police said the victim’s statements had been recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC. The accused was arrested by the police. A case under Sections 376 (rape) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 17 police station.
