Inter-college c’ship: Harpreet declared best boxer

The three-day Punjabi University Inter-College Boxing (Women) Championship hosted by Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, concluded here today.

Harpreet Kaur of Modi College was declared the best boxer of the tournament and Amandeep Kaur of ADC Mastuana Sahib was declared the ‘best loser’ of the tournament.

Modi College was also declared the overall champion of the competition with 40 points whereas NCPE, Chupki was declared second with 15 points. Mata Sahib Kaur Girls College, Talwandi Sahbo, was declared third by securing 11 points 

and Public College, Samana, stood fourth with eight points.

Principal of the college Khushvinder Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion. He urged the participants to appreciate the role of sports in making society tolerant and a happy place to live in. He congratulated the Sports Department and sports persons for winning the tournament. Vice-Principal Nimral Singh welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. He thanked officials of Punjabi University, NIS, Patiala, Punjab Sports Department and College Medical Officer Kewal Krishan for the help they extended in the organisation of the event.

He said sports play an important role in improving the physical and mental health of youth and keep them dedicated in furtherance of their careers. Dean, Sports, Dr Gurdeep Singh said competitions were held in 10 categories. Upkar Singh, DSO Patiala; Tarsem Lal Gupta, Chief Coach, NIS; and Renu, boxing coach of Punjabi University, played key role in organising the tournament. A large number of students and teachers from other colleges were there to applaud the performance of the participants.
