Owners of a newly opened immigration office at Beant Singh complex in Choti Baradari here have allegedly removed tiles that were affixed by the government from a public pathway without any permission from the Municipal Corporation (MC). The tiles affixed later are reportedly slippery and cause people to topple.

The tiles on the public pathway are very slippery, say students in the vicinity. “The tiles affixed on the public pathway are slippery. We come here for our class everyday and can see people being inconvenienced due to them,” said a student of the IELTS institute.

Another student said: “This is a public pathway and not a private area. The Municipal Corporation is responsible for the upkeep of the area. The tiles affixed here earlier were not broken. Still, they have been removed and new ones installed.”

Officials in the Municipal Corporation (MC) said today that they would inquire into the matter. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khaira said, “The building comes under the ambit of the MC. We will take appropriate action if any changes have been made at any public property without requisite permissions of the MC.”
