For the past couple of years, Chandigarh has become a crime hub and there has been a steep hike in the number of crimes. The authorities concerned should install CCTVs at important locations such as markets, roundabouts, dividing roads of sectors and green belts where some residents are indulged in gambling, drinking. City residents are paying direct and indirect taxes regularly and against these taxes, they require from the administration various services, which include security of citizens. Resident Welfare Associations are working on voluntarily basis and are not in a position to bear huge expenditure for installation of CCTVs. The UT Administration should come to the rescue of the residents. This will give a long way in tracing out the criminals. —SK Khosla, Chandigarh

Penalise erring airlines

This refers to the news report, ‘Pilot fails to show up, passengers left high & dry’ carried out in these columns on July 4. It’s a case of mismanagemen on the part of IndiGo airlines that their pilot concerned did not turn up at Chandigarh airport to fly its Delhi-bound flight causing four to five hours of delay in departure of the passengers. This might have caused a lot of inconvenience to all passengers who were supposed to travel by this flight. The government and the DGCA must intervene in such cases and penalise the erring airlines heavily and also ask them to compensate the affected passengers. —Sanjay Chopra, Mohali
