Information Commission awards compensation to Mohali resident

MOHALI:The Punjab State Information Commission awarded a compensation of Rs 3,000 to a Mohali resident to be paid by public information officer of Local Government, Punjab, for not providing requisite information under the RTI, sought by the complainant.

The Punjab State Information Commission awarded a compensation of Rs 3,000 to a Mohali resident to be paid by public information officer of Local Government, Punjab, for not providing requisite information under the RTI, sought by the complainant.

The complainant, Pawan Sharma, a resident of Phase II, here, has sought information of some properties of Sugar Fed, Punjab, which have been sold to public/government department, institutions, since 2000 till date with the permission of the Director, local government, Punjab, in July last year.

“As the sought information was not provided, I have to approach the information commission,” said Pawan Sharma.

After hearing both parties, the commission awarded the compensation to the complainant with directions to the respondent to produce the copy of the cheque or demand draft in this regard on the next date of hearing on March 7.
