Kolkata, April 18

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu wants the Indian football team coach to be a good man-manager above all, as he feels that will push them to do well as a unit.

“As a player, I would want someone who helps us become better players and is a good man manager. Man management is very important for a head coach of any team,” said Gurpreet.

“We have senior and junior players, and he needs to make sure that everyone is happy,” added the India’s No.1 goalkeeper. “Someone who knows the strengths and weaknesses and can push us to play better. We know we can play better football.”

Since Stephen Constantine resigned as head coach following India’s exit from the Asian Cup, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has received more than 250 applications for the job with big names such as Raymond Domenech, former manager of the French national team, and former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson throwing their hats into the ring.

After further scrutinising, eight to 10 coaches could be interviewed through long-distance calls and finally, a couple of them might be called for personal interviews. — IANS
