Independence Day celebrations

Patiala: To mark the 71st Independence Day, Social Science Department of DAV Public School, Patiala, organised a group discussion for Class X, quiz for Class IX and for Class VIII a presentation was shown on important events and leaders during national struggle. The topics of the group discussion were “India - land of opportunities, Challenges to the national integration”, “Vision India – 2020”, and “70 years of Indian Independence”. Students expressed their views enthusiastically. The discussion was initiated by Geeta Sharma (HoD), Social Science Department, who enlightened the students about the achievements of India for past 70 years.

Cleanliness campaign

NSS volunteers of Khalsa College, Patiala, initiated a door-to-door cleanliness campaign under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to make people aware of benefits of keeping the environment clean and green. During the campaign, the volunteers visited Dhamo Majra and Malo Majra villages in order to make people aware of sanitation and hygiene. They were carrying placards with handwritten awareness slogans. NSS officer Jagtar Singh said besides visiting common places of both villages, the volunteers also counselled the villagers to keep their environment clean and green for better future. Principal Dharminder Singh Ubha said: “It is our foremost duty to keep our surroundings clean and green.” Professor Sapna and Professor Davinder Singh were also present during the drive.

Tree plantation drive

The British Co-Ed High School, Patiala conducted a tree plantation drive on its premises in collaboration with the NCC, 5th Punjab Battalion (Army Wing) and 3rd Punjab Squadron (Air Wing) on August 12. Around 65 NCC cadets planted a large number of saplings of different species on the school campus. The cadets were enlightened about the importance of trees. They took a pledge to protect and preserve trees. School Principal Kiran Harika also shared her views on the importance of conservation of nature. The activity was supervised by Mandeep Chand, 3rd Officer (Army Wing), and Anil Kumar, 3rd Officer (Air Wing).  OC
