In Mohali dist, Cong corners 55 of 63 block samiti seats

Indian National Congress (INC) almost swept the the zila parishad and block samiti elections in the district, the results of which were declared today.

Out of the 10 zila parishad seats in Mohali district, the results of nine were declared till filling of the report. All nine seats were won by the Congress while recounting on one seat was under way.

Out of the total 63 seats of block samitis in the district, the Congress candidates emerged winner in as many as 55 seats. Seven seats went to SAD while one seat in the Kharar zone was won by an Independent candidate.

A total of 150 candidates had contested the block samiti elections. The total number of contestants for the zila parishad seats in the total 10 zones was 23.

The Kharar zone of block samitis had 25 seats and 21 of these went to the Congress, three to SAD and one to Independent candidate.

The Dera Bassi zone saw a clean sweep with all 22 Congress candidates winning their seats. In the Majri zone, Congress candidates cornered as many as 12 seats while the remaining four went to Akali Dal candidates.
