Chandigarh, November 12

The report of an inspection carried out by teams of the Estate Office has found large-scale illegal commercial activities in the Industrial Area. Sources said the Estate Office recently submitted the report to the SDM concerned to issue resumption notices to the owners of buildings where illegal commercial activities were noticed.

The Estate Office carried out the inspection recently after the Chandigarh Industrial Plot Owners Association raised the issue before the Administration.

The association, in its representation submitted to the assistant estate officer, said the owners of converted plots had paid crores of rupees under the conversion policy to allow commercial activities in the converted plots. The association said after paying crores of rupees as conversion fee, they had made a huge investment on constructing malls and commercial buildings. However, recently many instances had come to light in which owners of buildings had rented out their premises to banks and companies to open their offices without paying a single penny as conversion fee, which was in gross violation of the rules and was causing a loss to the Administration.

Acting on the representation, the Estate Office carried out the inspection.

The report has been sent to the SDM (East) for starting resumption proceedings.
