Chandigarh, December 14

Rock Garden is all decked up for its creator Nek Chand’s 93rd birth anniversary tomorrow.

The Rock Garden Society, which manages the world famous tourist spot, is organising various functions to celebrate the occasion.

UT Administrator and Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore will inaugurate a big-sized LED screen installed at the open air theatre. A film on the life and work of the legend will also be released on the occasion.

Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal said the 20-minute film would be screened for visitors every day. The film will be shown in three languages — English, Hindi and Punjabi.

Renowned singer Anoop Jalota will perform at 4.30 pm. Cultural functions and competitions for students will also be organised on the occasion.

Nek Chand was born at Shakargarh, now in Pakistan, on December 15, 1924. After the Partition, their family settled in Punjab. Nek Chand started the work on Rock Garden secretly in 1957 during his spare time. The garden is famous for its sculptures made of recycled ceramic.
