Patiala, June 23

John Horgan, Premier of British Columbia, Canada, and Jagrup Brar, MLA, Surrey- Fleetwood and Punjabi University alumnus conferred a certificate of appreciation on Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Professor BS Ghuman in recognition of his contribution toward teaching, research, training and consultancy to people of Punjab for more than three decades.

Professor Ghuman said Brtish Columbia and Punjab had many things in common. “Sizeable presence of Punjabi diaspora and its pivotal role in the development of the province acts as a bridge between both states. We should have a state-to-state agreement for reaping benefits of each state’s economic and social development and cultural and historical heritage,” he added.

He said it was a proud moment to recognise that Jagrup Brar, elected MLA of British Columbia four times in a row, was an alumnus of Punjabi University.

Professor Ghuman also met Dr Darryl Plecas, Speaker, Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, who is also Professor Emeritus in the field of Criminology at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV).

He said Punjabi University had signed an MOU with UFV and he invited Professor Plecas to visit the university in Patiala and address students and faculty of police administration, law and forensic science.
