Holiday in UT today

CHANDIGARH: On account of the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore has announced a public holiday in all government offices/boards/corporations/institutions, including industrial establishments, under the UT Administration on Monday (November 11).

The holiday will also be observed in all government and private educational institutions in the city. However, the holiday has not been announced under the Negotiable Instruments Act. OPDs to function as usual

Chandigarh: Scheduled OPDs at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, and the PGI will function as usual on Monday. An official said the OPD registration at the PGI will close at 10.30 am. TNS

Death: Viscera report ‘crucial’ 

Panchkula: The viscera report will play a crucial role in the investigation into the death of a 22-year-old youth under mysterious circumstances at Civil Hospital, Sector 6, on Friday. Gopal Bhardwaj, Principal Medical Officer at the hospital, said, “We will take stern action if any negligence is found on the part of the hospital staff.” The family of Tarun of Saketri had alleged that he died due to injections given to him by doctors at the hospital. Over 70 donate blood at camp

Ambala: Vishvas Foundation, Panchkula, in association with a bank, organised a blood donation camp at Vishvas Public School in Ambala City on Sunday. As many as 72 persons donated blood on the occasion. Board of Directors and Principal of the school motivated the donors and gave them certificates. The management of the school thanked Dr Virender Bharti and his team of the Civil Hospital, Ambala, for helping the school in organising the camp. TNS

Chandigarh: A private hospital has announced to treat any patient requiring heart surgery irrespective of his or her financial position with tailor-made fixed expenses as per the patient’s affordability. Dr Virendar Sarwal, director of cardiothoracic and vascular at Ojas Hospital, Panchkula, said they had also launched a 24*7 helpline, 8727066555, where any heart patient requiring surgery could get opinion guidance on his heart disease free of cost from a team of experts. Patients who have undergone heart surgeries at the hospital will also get lifetime free follow-up consultation. The hospital is also running a free second opinion clinic on heart disease requiring surgeries to give scientific right opinion, remarked Dr Sarwal.  TNS

Meeting of DHCOA held

Chandigarh: The quarterly meeting of the Defence Honorary Commissioned Officers Association (DHCOA) of Chandigarh was held at the community centre in Sector 47 on Sunday. The meeting, attended by several honorary officers retired from the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, had deliberations of several issues, including the forthcoming elections of National Federation of Defence Honorary Commissioned Officers to be held in Delhi. During the meeting, the members also criticised the government for not reviewing the pension of defence veteran even after a lapse of five years, as per the OROP scheme. Various other issues, including the pension discrimination with honorary flying officers and pension according to the length of service, were also discussed. TNS

Naaz wins silver in CBSE National   

Mohali: Naaz Kaur, a student of Vivek High school and a trainee of Punjab State Institute of Sports (PIS) Sector 78, won the silver medal in uneven bar event during the CBSE National Gymnastics Championship. The championship concluded in Allahabad today. She participated in the U-11 category, which saw participation of more 250 gymnasts. She also claimed overall 6th position in her age-group. TNS

GNPS-36 win basketball title 

Chandigarh:  Guru Nanak Public School (Sector 36) won the girls’U-17 inter-school basketball tournament by defeating Vivek High School (Sector 38) 54-48. Payal contributed 20 points in the win. Carmel Convent School (Sector 9) claimed the third position. TNS

Cricket c’ship from nov 20

Panchkula: The 35th All India U-17 Cricket Tournament for Shaheed Bhagat Singh will be played from November 20 to 23 at Panchkula and Mohali. Teams from Karnataka, Delhi, Punjab, Chandigarh, Bihar, Haryana and neighbouring countries like Nepal and United Arab Emirates are expected to participate in this tournament. TNS

Juniorthon on November 17

Chandigarh:  Northridge International School (Sector 46) will organise ‘Juniorthon’ on November 17. Children in the age bracket of 3 years to 11 years will be eligible to participate in the event. Japtyesh shines in shooting meet 

Chandigarh: Japtyesh Singh, a student of Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (Sector 26), won one gold and one silver medal in the Panjab University Inter College Shooting Championship. He has been selected to participate in the All India Inter University Shooting Championship, at New Delhi from November 12 to 15, and in the 63rd National Shooting Championship, at Bhopal from December 7 to January 4. Earlier, this month, he won the bronze medal in the 14th Asian Shooting .TNS

Godrej XI log easy victory  

Chandigarh:  Godrej XI defeated ICICI by seven runs in the No Tension-Have Fun Cricket T20 Trophy. Batting first, ICICI scored 77/9 in 20 overs with the help of Sunil (25), Dheeraj (18) and Vippan Arora (15). Saurav (3/16) and Soni Kumar (2/9) were the two main wicket takers for the side, while Rahul Hooda, Abhishek and Sudheer claimed one wicket each. In reply, Godrej XI posted 78/3 in 11 overs. TNS

Student EXceL in Abacus meet 

Panchkula: Students of Brainobrain Abacus Institute in Amravati Enclave shined in the 109th Regional Competition, at Karnal. Sangeeta Chandgothia director of the Institute was awarded the Best Institute Trophy. TNS
