SAI defeat city girls to bag title

CHANDIGARH:Sports Authority of India won the ninth Hockey India Senior Women National Championship (B Division) by defeating Hockey Chandigarh 4-1 in Hisar.

Sports Authority of India won the ninth Hockey India Senior Women National Championship (B Division) by defeating Hockey Chandigarh 4-1 in Hisar.

Sonia netted the first goal in the 16th minute while Anima Tiru scored the second goal in the 32nd minute. Alka Dungdung further pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 41stminute strike. Pramila Sorena netted the fourth goal in the 60th minute. 

Sarabdeep Kaur pulled off a lone goal for the city team in the 58th minute. Steel Plant Sports Board claimed the third position by defeating UCO Bank Women's Hockey Academy 1-0. Mamta Bhatt scored the winning goal in the 28th minute. 

Jharkhand register 2-1 win over Haryana 

Hockey Jharkhand beat Hockey Haryana 2-1 in the final of the 9th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship (A-Division), concluded at the Kollam Hockey Stadium, on Sunday. 

Both sides started on a good note, but Jharkhand defence and strikers played better than their rivals. The first two quarters of the match went goalless, however in the third quarter Jharkhand scored two goals within a span of nine minutes. Reshma Soreng converted a penalty corner in the 31st minute, followed by a field goal b y Priya Dungdung in the 40th minute. With just over a minute to go before the end of third quarter, Haryana pulled back one with the help of a penalty corner, successfully converted by Chetna in the 44th minute. 

After reducing the lead, Haryana was optimistic to come back in the contest. But Jharkhand girls intact their defence to ensure a 2-1 win at the end of regulation time. Meanwhile, Hockey Mizoram beat Uttar Pradesh Hockey 2-0 to win the bronze medal match. With just over a minute left for the end of the opening quarter, Lalrinfeli opened the account for Mizoram. In the next quarter, F Lalawmpuii doubled the lead in the 19th minute.
