High drama was witnessed at the Baltana police chowki after a 46-year-old woman was allegedly beaten up by the chowki in-charge and two other constables here on Wednesday night.

She had gone to the police chowki, along with her daughter-in-law, to enquire about her son, who was detained by the Baltana police. However, the police said she was making false allegations.

Following the incident, the 46-year-old woman, Salma, and her daughter-in-law Nazrana (20), residents of Anand Vihar, Baltana, were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi. Medical examination of the women was  done and the report is awaited.

Salma said on Wednesday she came to know from someone that her son Mobin Khan was arrested by the police and had been taken to Baltana police chowki for questioning.  Salma alleged that when she reached the police chowki, along with her daughter-in-law, to enquire about her son, she was allegedly subjected to cruelty and sexual harassment at the hands of the policemen. She further alleged that the police chowki in-charge abused them.

Narpinder Singh, in-charge, Baltana police chowki, refuted the allegations. He claimed that  Mobin Khan was a habitual offender, who had earlier been arrested in a murder case. He said Mobin khan and his younger brother Saleem Khan were involved in snatching incidents in the area in the past.

According to him, Sarabjeet Singh, a resident of Zirakpur, had lodged an FIR against Mobin and his younger brother Saleem for assaulting him. The complainant claimed that both used to extort money from people. “Following which Mobin Khan was detained,” the chowki in-charge said.

Narpinder said both women barged into their room and started shouting. He added that Salma even abused the policemen after which she was allowed to leave the police station. Harbir Singh Atwal, SP (D), said the matter was being investigated.
