Heritage festival highlights Patiala’s 225-yr-old legacy

A heritage walk showcasing royal city’s glorious legacy was held on the last day of the Patiala Heritage Festival which commenced from the Shahi Samadhan and concluded at the Quila Mubarak. 

The Punjab Culture and Tourism Department and district administration along with the Indian Trust for Rural Heritage and Development organised the walk in which visitors and over 400 students from various colleges participated. 

Professor Gurbakshish Singh from the Polytechnic College for Girls, acted as the guide and briefed the visitors about 225-years-old legacy of Patiala. The Shahi Samadhan is a place where Baba Ala Singh to Raj Mata Mohinder Kaur, the last queen of the princely state and mother of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh have been cremated. 

The visitors crossed Nabha, Sirhindi and Lahori Gate which surround old Patiala city.

Further, the participants visited the Dal Daliya Chowk from where people used to buy pulses. At the end, visitors reached the Qila Mubarak where classical evenings have been held under the heritage festival week. 

Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu said, “It is the duty of all citizens to stay informed about the history and keep it intact.” Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Poonamdeep Kaur and Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu also participated in the event.
