Chandigarh, April 19
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday stayed the appointment of clerks in Punjabi University, Patiala.
The stay order by Justice Jaswant Singh came on a writ petition filed by Kulwant Kaur through counsel Munish Gupta. The petitioner had submitted the process of appointing 30 clerks in the university which was initiated in 2015 by way of an advertisement. After type test and interviews, the merit list was prepared and appointments made. Gupta contended more than 100 appointments were made after the selection without issuing fresh advertisement. Till date, around 146 clerks had been appointed. He also contended that bifurcation of posts for reserved categories was not made during the selection process. A separate merit list was also not prepared.
Justice Jaswant Singh stayed the appointment of clerks in the university till further orders. The case will now come up for hearing on May 29. — TNS
