HC Chief Justice exhorts students to volunteer for legal-aid programmes

Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Krishna Murari said students should offer pro bono services to the legal-aid programmes to help society. 

He was speaking at the inauguration of the auditorium building of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) here on Sunday. He was joined by Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal; Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Member, General Council, RGNUL; Atul Nanda, Advocate General Punjab; and Professor V Vijyakumar, Vice-Chancellor, National Law Institute University (NLIU). 

Justice Murari said the students should discipline themselves as they entered the liberal portals of higher education. “You should actively participate in moot court competitions to hone your skills. Practical knowledge of the subject is crucial. You should take up internship programmes to learn through practical experience.” 

Professor Paramjit S Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, RGNUL, gave a comprehensive introduction of the university. Officials said the university auditorium was equipped with latest technology and state-of-the-art infrastructure with a seating capacity of 1,200. The university also released its publication book titled ‘Introduction to teaching methods in higher education’.
