Air India should enhance ops

This refers to a news item, “IndiGo not to fly Dubai for 2 months”. It’s a bad news for the residents of both tricity and neighbouring states. Earlier in September, Air India had announced the permanent suspension of their flight to Bangkok from the Chandigarh airport. Also, Spicejet suspended its seven flights operating from the airport around same time. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had to intervene in the matter and rightly pulled up Air India by asking: Is it national or anti-national carrier? Being a government organisation, Air India should take the lead in enhancing its operations from the airport instead of shutting its already running flights. The authorities seem totally ignorant about the development of the airport, which is leading to discontinuation of flights by almost all airlines. It is for sure that if the airlines work seriously on resuming or increasing their flights from the city, it will certainly become commercially highly viable for them. It will be a win-win situation for both passengers and the airlines.

Need to regulate three-wheelers

Most of the three-wheeler drivers in the tricity do not possess valid driving licence and do not go by the meter. They charge heavy amount from commuters as the authorities concerned have not fixed their rates. Also, they stop their vehicles at their will to pick up passengers, which sometimes leads to accidents. Besides, several of them indulge in nefarious activities, which is a serious law and order problem in the city. The authorities concerned must establish a regulatory authority for three-wheelers.

Poor condition of roads

Roads in front of some houses at Sector 78, Mohali, have not been carpeted since long time. However, other areas in the same sector have been carpeted by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). Step-motherly treatment has been observed for this area by the GMADA. Also, there is no provision of water drainage system in a 200-metre area. Poor condition of roads may lead to accidents or mishappening.
