Water wastage goes unchecked

Is a civic issue bothering you? Are you agitated over the lack of concern? Is there something heartening that you feel needs to be highlighted? Or a picture which in your opinion ought to be seen by many, and not just you? CHANDIGARH TRIBUNE invites its readers to have their say. Please email at: haveyoursay@tribunemail.com

I had gone to Sector 31 for some official work at 8.30 am. Close to Kendriya Vidyalaya, I saw a footpath being washed using a water jet, while water was flowing from a tanker. I returned at 10.35 am and water was still being used to wash the footpath in the same Sector. I wonder on whose instructions this criminal wastage of water was being done for washing something that is being used by public and will get dirty in no time. Raj Kumari Gupta

Taking city for a ride

Apropos of the news report “Parking fee: MC House not authorised to cancel pact” (Chandigarh Tribune, April 16), it was intriguing to learn that the MoU between the civic body and the parking firm, Arya Toll Infra Limited, does not ‘authorise’ the House to cancel the contract once approved by it. If so, then the MC General House discussing the shortcomings in the functioning of paid parking lots would eventually be an exercise in futility. Incidentally, there is no mention of cancellation of contract for violations like employees not in uniform, “misbehaviour” by licencee or any of his employees and parking of vehicles in an unauthorised area or haphazard parking which could invite some ‘penalty’ only. Ironically, the MoU also lays down three specific conditions under which the agreement recently entered into between the MC and the firm could be cancelled that too ‘only’ by additional commissioner or joint commissioner of the MC. Does this not thereby imply that the MC House is simply ‘subservient’ to the civic body here? How come? SK Gupta, Panchkula
