Hassan, Tuba finish on top

CHANDIGARH: Mohammad Hassan drubbed Mohammad Talib of SD Public School, Sector 32, in straight games to win the men’s singles title at the 20th St. Stephen’s Carrom Ranking Tournament, which concluded here today.

Mohammad Hassan drubbed Mohammad Talib of SD Public School, Sector 32, in straight games to win the men’s singles title at the 20th St. Stephen’s Carrom Ranking Tournament, which concluded here today. 

Hassan won the opening game 25-7, and further improved the results (25-5) to win the final.   

Earlier, in the semifinals, Hassan had registered a 21-16 25-10 win over Sanjay Negi, while Talib got the better of Neeraj Barti 25-7 25-11.

The women’s singles title went to Tuba Sehar of St. Stephen’s School. She overcame her sister Farheen 25-10 5-25 24-9 to be crowned as the champion.  

Tuba blanked Gulshan 25-0 25-0 in the quarterfinals and then humbled Maryam Khan 16-15 19-3 on her way to the final, while her sister dumped Sangini Mamgain 25-0 25-0 and Sanya Chadha 21-16 14-22 25-0 to book a place in the summit clash.     

Twin titles for Sahil

The boys’ junior title went to Sahil Thakur of St. Joseph Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, after he beat hosts’ Chirag 13-8 21-3 in the final.  

Sahil also won the boys’ sub-junior championship, beating Yash Gupta of Hans Raj Public School, Panchkula, 21-0 18-4.

Sahil had earlier beat Aryan Singh Dhaka 21-4 17-9 in the boys’ junior semifinals, while he got the better of Gopal Kakkar (9-0 12-0) to ensure a place in the boys’ sub-junior final.     

Sangini Mamgain of Gurukul Global School, Mani Majra, defeating schoolmate Gungun Kakkar 11-5 11-0 to win the girls’ sub-junior title, while Sanya Chadha of Hall Mark Public School, Panchkula, won the girls’ junior championship, with a 12-4 13-10 victory over Maryam of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46.

Arg Kandroo emerged as the cadet boys’ champion after he overcame Harmannat Singh 17-0 0-5 6-3 in the final.

The winners were awarded by the chief guest and St. Stephen’s School Principal Louis Lopez.

Mayank Gupta was awarded a cash prize for scoring the only ‘black slam’ in the tournament.

Men: Mohammad Talib bt Neeraj Barti 25-7 25-11, Mohammad Hassan bt Sanjay Negi 21-16, 25-10

Sub-junior girls: Sangini Mamgain bt Muskan Singhal 14-0 19-0, Gungun Kakkar bt Navya Singla 6-4, 16-0
