Local archer Guncha Ashri has been selected to attend the trials for the Youth World Cup team. The 16-year-old is a student of Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, and has been selected in the recurve (sub-junior) event. The Youth World Cup is scheduled to be held in Berlin (Germany) in August.

During the competitive assessment/selection trials held at the SAI centre in Sonepat in November, she finished sixth overall with a total score of 1261.

“It’s a proud moment as I am the only girl from this region to get selected for the national trials,” said Guncha.

Guncha, who had earlier represented the city in 12 various national tournaments, currently trains at the Archery Coaching Centre at NIS Patiala. “I regularly travel from Chandigarh to Patiala to train in a professional environment. I had started my career from the Lake Sports Complex coaching centre,” added Guncha.

The trials to select the junior and cadet (recurve and compound) teams will start on May 13 at the SAI Centre in Rohtak.
