Mohali, December 13

Flights at the Chandigarh international airport were disrupted due to inclement weather today.

Airport officials said five flights were delayed and two cancelled because of poor weather conditions and low visibility due to fog this morning.

In a statement, Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) public relations officer Deepesh Joshi said, “Two flights were cancelled and five delayed due to bad weather conditions.”

The worst affected were the morning flights. The first flight scheduled to arrive at the airport, Delhi-Chandigarh-Delhi, was cancelled and the next two flights from Chandigarh to Delhi were delayed. IndiGo’s flight to Delhi, which has a scheduled departure time of 8 am, departed three hours late while SpiceJet’s flight to Delhi was late by two hours and 20 minutes. Two SpiceJet’s flights to Srinagar were delayed due to poor weather conditions in Srinagar.

Air India’s afternoon flight, Pune-Chandigarh- Mumbai, had to be cancelled due to curtailed watch hours at the airport. Flight operations at the airport have been curtailed due to a change in the watch hours on account of runway repairs. The airport remains closed for operations from 4 pm to 5 am from Monday to Saturday. There are no flights on Sunday. The airport will remain closed for operations for 15 days from February 12 to 26 next year due to runway repairs.
