Mohali, August 10

The Mohali Police have placed four officials under suspension following corruption charges against them.

Sources said constables — Manjot Singh and Jatinder Singh — posted as the gunmen of the former in-charge of the CIA were accused of taking money from a drug peddler.

The other two policemen, head constable Daulat Singh, posted as a munshi at the Mataur police station, and Harpreet Singh, a constable at the same police station, were suspended for taking money from passport applicants for verifying their credentials.

The names of Manjot Singh and Jatinder Singh cropped up during the interrogation of two drug peddlers who had alleged that three policemen of the CIA, Mohali, had taken money from one of them.

The police authorities had already placed another head constable, Baldev Singh, under suspension in this connection.

An inquiry was on, said Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal. Head constable Daulat Singh and constable Harpreet Singh came under the scanner following a complaint by a health official, a resident of Phase VII, who alleged that the constable had demanded money for passport verification. The complainant alleged that when the matter was brought to the notice of the ‘munshi’, he not only supported his colleague, but also lodged a DDR of misbehavior against her. “A departmental inquiry has been initiated,” said the SSP.
