Gopal, Vaidahvi emerge champions

CHANDIGARH: Gopal Kakkar blanked Harshal Kashyap 21-0 21-0 to win the boys’ sub-junior title on the penultimate day of the 28th Chandigarh State Carrom Tournament at St Stephen’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 45, here, on Saturday.

Gopal Kakkar blanked Harshal Kashyap 21-0 21-0 to win the boys’ sub-junior title on the penultimate day of the 28th Chandigarh State Carrom Tournament at St Stephen’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 45, here, on Saturday.

Earlier in the semifinals, Kakkar humbled Pratyush Verma 14-4 17-1, while Kashyap rallied from a set down to overcome Jyodeep Singh 2-5 10-3 14-0.  

The girls’ sub-junior title went to Vaidahvi Mamgain. She drubbed Ayesha 17-0 12-0 in the final.   

In the semifinals, Vaidahvi blanked Saniya 13-0 13-0. Ayesha prevailed over Muskan Singhal 17-0 14-0.

Nidhi Gupta, meanwhile, overcame Maryam 16-19 20-13 14-12 to win the junior girls’ title.  

Maryam humbled Sanya Chadha 21-4 21-7 in the semifinals, while Nidhi had got the better of Sangini Mamgain 20-2 14-8. 

The senior finals, in both men’s and women’s categories will be playes on Sunday.
