Goods stored in two godowns and other items in three offices were gutted when a fire broke out in two adjoining plots of the Industrial Area, Phase II, in the wee hours today. The exact cause of fire could not be known, though short circuit is suspected to be the reason behind the incident.

The exact loss could not be ascertained, but goods worth nearly Rs1 crore is said to have been destroyed in the mishap. According to information, the incident came to light at about 4 am when a guard in the area saw smoke billowing out of the plots. He immediately called up the police. Soon the local police and a team from the Fire Department reached the spot.

Fire officials said two water tenders and a water boozer were pressed into service. It took over one hour for the firemen to douse the flames. Two godowns of medicine and hardware along with security, pharmaceuticals and cyber café were the worst hit.“I lost everything in the fire. I lost goods worth Rs 15 lakh,” said Sunil Goswami, owner of Haryana Enterprises, who has a medicine godown here. 

Ravi Kant Pandey, who runs Shashi Teleservices, said, “My PC, AC and furniture have been destroyed in the fire. These were worth over Rs one lakh.” Cybersoft and Software Solutions Pvt Ltd and Karnataka Pharmaceuticals also faced major losses. Nishant, who runs an IT firm, here was lucky that his shop was not damaged.
