Go organic, farmers urged

Markfed, one of the Asia’s biggest cooperative organisation, organised a seminar at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) to mark the week-long celebrations of the 64th All-India Cooperative Week. The chief guests were former Union Minister Preneet Kaur and Punjab Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot. They urged farmers to opt for organic farming. 

They also launched several ready-to-eat products of Markfed and flagged off the consignment of desi ghee to be exported to Dubai and Qatar. They also launched several cattle feed brands of Markfed.

 Preneet Kaur said there was a huge demand of organic products in the international market and farmers of Punjab should avoid using insecticides and pesticides to export their products to foreign countries. She added that besides adding to their income, the organic farming would also benefit farmers by improving the soil health and increasing the level of pollution.

Dharamsot attacked the previous Akali-BJP government and said the 10-year tenure of the Badal government had ruined Punjab. He said due to anti-people policies of the SAD-BJP, business communities in the state had to witness hard times. — OC
