GNDU girls beat SPPU in inter-varsity opener

MOHALI:Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, registered a hard-fought 7-6 win over Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in the opening match of the All-India Inter-University Baseball Championship for Women at Chandigarh University, Gharuan, here on Tuesday.

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, registered a hard-fought 7-6 win over Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in the opening match of the All-India Inter-University Baseball Championship for Women at Chandigarh University, Gharuan, here on Tuesday. 

GNDU scored just one run in the first innings, while Pune University made three runs. GNDU girls though managed six runs in the second innings and then restricted their opponent to three runs to win the match 7-6. 

In the second match, Solapur University, Maharashtra, beat Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, 10-0. 

Solapur University decided to strike first and dominated the first innings with a total of 10 runs. Rewti Kashit scored two runs.

SNDT University, Mumbai, meanwhile, defeated SGB Amravati University, 1-0. Ginta of SNDT University scored the only run. 

Barkatullah University, Bhopal, defeated Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, 8-2, while in the last match of the day HNB Gharwal University beat LPU Phagwara 8-4.
