GMSSS-22, NPS boys make winning starts

Hosts Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 22, beat their Sector 35 counterparts by a solitary goal in the boys’ U-19 inter-school football championship here on Tuesday. 

Sanjeev scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute to help GMSSS, Sector 22, beat their opponents. 

Shishu Niketan on top

In another match, Shishu Niketan boys drubbed Saupin’s School, Sector 32, 3-0 after twin strikes from Anuj. 

Shishu Niketan took an early lead — Ashish finding the back of Saupin’s net in the fifth minute of the match. Anuj doubled the lead 13 minutes later and pumped in another goal in the 26th minute to extend the tally to 3-0. 

The side then played for possession and held their opponents in the remaining part of the game to emerge winners.   

Rohit strikes twice 

New Public School (NPS), Sector 18, meanwhile, rode on Rohit’s brace to blank Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, in the last match of the day. 

After a drab first half, New Public School broke the deadlock in the 45th minute when Rohit beat the GMSSS, Sector 21, custodian with a perfect volley. Ten minutes later, he struck again to stretch the lead.     

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, tried their best to make a come back into the match. However, their attempt was met with a stiff challenge from the NPS back line. The side eventually lost 0-2 to their opponents.
