Chandigarh, June 21

In a major push for expansion of specialised services, VP Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator, has approved two super specialty departments at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32.  With the approval to new departments, the number of super specialty wings in the hospital  has gone up to three. The Cardiology Department has been functional for more than one year.

Anurag Agarwal, Home-cum-Health Secretary, said with the approval to the two super specialty departments, the related infrastructure would also be approved soon. The recruitment of specialists in the new departments would also start  in due course of time.

At present, the specialists of urology and neurosurgery  are working under the Department of Surgery.

Professor AK  Janmeja, Director Principal of the medical college, said the  two departments would improve patient  care  in a big way.

He said in a majority of road accident  cases, patients  required immediate services of neurosurgeons. The full-fledged urology departments would cater to the  need of patients who required  specialised  services  of the  doctors  for  kidney and related ailments.
