Mohali, July 25

Following repeated incidents of residents getting stuck in lifts installed at Purab Premium Apartments in Sector 88 here, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) today directed the contractor/manufacturer to check all 18 elevators.

The contractor has been entrusted with the maintenance and repair work for five years. The housing project, spread over 37 acres, comprises 27 towers of 60 apartments each.

Additional chief Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Vini Mahajan, who is also the vice-chairperson of GMADA, said the lifts, which are equipped with glass touch power, suspension traction media, automatic rescue device, overspeed governor sensing, alarm, telecom system and 100 per cent power backup,

were installed by the Schindler group.

“Acting on directions of GMADA, the company had arranged an awareness and interactive session with the residents to make them understand the design and operation of the lifts. They were told that mishandling could lead to a greater damage,” said the official, adding that the company had been asked to check all lifts thoroughly and rectify the fault.

Five trapping incidents have taken place in the past two-and-a-half-months there.   The company claims to have conducting monthly test checks.
