Global tech advancements for economic growth discussed

A two-day international conference on ‘Planning for Industrialisation in 21st Century’ began at the Centre for Economics and Innovation Studies (CDEIS), Punjabi University, here on Thursday.

On the first day, experts focused on adapting rapidly transiting global technological advancements for economic growth keeping on mind the local and regional conditions.

Dr Daniel KN Johnson, professor at Colorado College, Colorado Springs, USA, emphasised on adapting solutions to fix problems that suit a person’s needs instead of following the mechanism of global technological advancements. 

He stressed on creativity as a way to complement the traditional ways of progress and develop support systems to combat possible risks.

Prof BS Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, said, “We need to follow the model of  globalisation for cutting edge technological advancements keeping on mind the nature of the economy, which is typically agrarian. The industrial revolution cannot be used as an escape route.”
