Girl’s neck slit by neighbour, dies

CHANDIGARH:The neck of a five-year-old girl, a resident of Sanjay Colony, Industrial Area, Phase I, was allegedly slit by her 35-year-old neighbour, leading to her death, while she was playing near her house this afternoon.

The neck of a five-year-old girl, a resident of Sanjay Colony, Industrial Area, Phase I, was allegedly slit by her 35-year-old neighbour, leading to her death, while she was playing near her house this afternoon. The accused was nabbed by the victim’s father and other colony residents, who thrashed him, leaving him injured.

The victim has been identified as Ujala (5), daughter of Manu Singh, a resident of Labour Colony. 

The victim’s father said his daughter left the house to play in the neighbourhood when the accused, identified as 35-year-old Kamlesh, caught her near his house and attacked her with a knife.

“A woman staying in the neighbourhood saw the accused throwing the victim to the ground and keeping one of his knees on her neck. He then took out a knife and slit her neck,” said a police official. 

The woman raised the alarm and tried to stop the accused. However, he pushed her. The victim’s father was informed, who rushed outside the house and caught the accused. 

Colony residents gathered at the spot and thrashed the accused. 

The minor girl, who was profusely bleeding, was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital Sector 32, where doctors declared her brought dead. 

The police were informed about the incident after which the accused was arrested. “Since the accused was also injured, he was admitted to the hospital,” said a police official. 

Police officers visited the hospital after getting information about the incident. 

The victim is survived by her parents and two brothers. The accused is a native of Bihar and was staying at the colony with his wife and two sons. Sources said his family was at present at their native village. 

A case of murder has been registered against the accused at the Industrial Area police station.
