Giant killer Rishabh triumphs

CHANDIGARH:On a giant killing spree, in form Rishabh Sharda stunned top seed Paramveer Singh Bajwa in straight sets to win the men’s title on the concluding day of the CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship here on Friday.

On a giant killing spree, in form Rishabh Sharda stunned top seed Paramveer Singh Bajwa in straight sets to win the men’s title on the concluding day of the CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship here on Friday.

Sharda capped off the tournament with a 6-4 6-2 win in the final.    

Twin titles for Sara

Sara Yadav also maintained her impressive run in the final as she packed off third seed Kaavya Sawhney 6-2 6-3 to win the women’s title.

In the women’s doubles competition, third seed pair of Sara and Prinkle Singh upset second seeds Kaavya Sawhney and Sharanya Shetty 6-3 6-2 to claim the title. 


Ekamjeet shines

Mohali: Top seed Ekamjeet Singh came from behind to beat second seed Harwin Singh to win the boys’ U-12 title at the Roots-AITA National Ranking Championship in Zirakpur on Friday. Ekamjeet lost the opening set 4-6, but came back into the match with a 6-1 win in the second set. He then  tamed Harwin 6-3 in the decider to lift the winners’ trophy. The girls’ U-12 title went to Bhumika Gupta after she dismissed Sia Mahajan 6-2 6-2 in the final. In the boys’ U-16 category, Rijul Bhatia registered a 6-4 6-2 win over Shrayvir to seal the title.

  • Men’s doubles: Vilaser Khate/Ranjeet Singh bt Hardeep Singh/Yuvraj Singh 7-5 2-6 10-5
