Patiala, September 25

The management of the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday claimed that the outpatient departments (OPDs) in the hospital, which were closed in April 2017, had started functioning again.

Harnam Singh, working president, Sagar Educational and Charitable Trust, said the decision to reopen the hospital had been taken on persistent demand of the people of the area.

He said a new equipment worth over Rs 2 crore was purchased for the functioning of OPDs and emergency department. He said the management had already cleared the dues of almost all former employees, including paramedical and other support staff.

He said, “The arrears of doctors and other administrative staff are being cleared this month. The management has already paid Rs 3.25 crore salary arrears to paramedical and support staff and other arrears would also be cleared shortly.”

Meanwhile, the former employees of the hospital expressed dejection, stating that their long-pending dues were not cleared by the administration. They said a local court had also dismissed the administration’s plea to deter former employees from holding protests outside the college. Some of the relieved employees said they would continue to hold the protest until their dues were not paid.

Rajpura MLA Hardyal Singh Kamboj, said, “I am with the employees and the management should release their dues as soon as possible. The protest can be intensified with the help of local people, if the management fails to pay the dues.”
