Chandigarh, February 19

A day after a 19-year-old BCA-II student of the PGGCG-42 was found hanging in her hostel room on the college campus, her family today alleged foul play in the incident.

Members of the deceased Bhawana’s family reached the Sector 36 police station on Monday morning and held a protest. Later, they went to the college.

Bhawana’s family members have expressed doubts that she committed suicide given the condition of the crime scene. They are demanding that the police conduct a probe.

The victim’s uncle Puneet Talwar, while speaking to Chandigarh Tribune, said, “The dupatta was hanging very low, it is not possible for a human being to hang at such height. Also, the dupatta was tied to a blade of the fan in the room, which could not possibly bear the weight of a human being.”

The family has alleged that it is not a case of suicide but a murder.

Police officials informed that as soon as they got information, they had reached the college and took Bhawana to the GMSH-16 where she was declared brought dead.

While the post-mortem examination report is awaited, the police have obtained CCTV footage of the area from the college authorities and are investigating the matter. — TNS

Bhawana was good student: Principal

PGGCG-42 Principal Binu Dogra said, “Bhawana was a good student and we allowed her to take coaching for the MCA in second year itself. We generally allow it in BCA third year.” She added that Bhawana was in charge of extracurricular activities in the hostel and possessed leadership qualities. The college declared a holiday after holding a condolence meeting in the morning.
