Gaurav punches his way to gold

CHANDIGARH:Gaurav Singh of Government Model High School, Sector 37, outpunched Raj Kumar of Government Model High School (GMHS), Sector 35, to win the gold medal in the 28-30kg category of the boys’ U-14 competition on the concluding day of the UT Open Boxing Championship at the Sector 42 Sports Complex.

Gaurav Singh of Government Model High School, Sector 37, outpunched Raj Kumar of Government Model High School (GMHS), Sector 35, to win the gold medal in the 28-30kg category of the boys’ U-14 competition on the concluding day of the UT Open Boxing Championship at the Sector 42 Sports Complex. 

Rivanshu Gaur of GMHS, Sector 42, and Shubham Kumar of GMHS, Sector 35, returned home with a bronze medal each. 

In the 30-32kg class, Kaushal Nandwal of Shishu Niketan School, Sector 22, downed Ankit Bhardwaj of GMHS, Sector 35, to claim the gold medal, while Aman Dev of GMHS, Sector 42, and Ankit Kumar of Guru Nanak Khalsa School, Sector 30, had to be content with the bronze medals. 

Krish Pal of GMHS, Sector 43, meanwhile, outwitted Moti Ram Arya School’s Anshuman Sharma in the 32-34kg category final. Hemant and Sumit, both from GMHS, Sector 42, got a bronze medal each.

Abhishek Nishad of GMHS, Sector 36, topped the podium in the 34-36kg class after he beat Suraj of GMHS, Sector 35, in the final. 

Pushkar Kumar of GMHS, Sector 42, and Sujal of GMHS, Sector 12, took home a bronze medal each. 

In the 36-38kg category, Harsh of Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, got the better of Sahib Singh of St Joseph’s School, Sector 44, to win the gold medal. Another St Joseph’s pugilist, Priyanshu, had to be content with the bronze medal.
