The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, will organise free voice-screening sessions between 2-4 pm at room number 441, IV floor, Department of ENT, New OPD, in the institute on Monday.

“As our bodies age, we lose muscle mass, our mucous membranes become thinner and drier. We also lose body’s fine coordination which exists in our younger years. These changes occur in the larynx as well and further lead to changes in voice. In medical terms, these conditions are referred to as vocal cord atrophy or bowing, presbyphonia, or presbylaryngis. Studies have revealed that nearly 50 per cent of elderly report some kind of voice changes or have experienced a voice disorder at some time,” said PGIMER spokesperson.
