Food samples collected, expired products destroyed

As part of the ongoing drive against food adulteration, the Health Department, on Tuesday, raided four shops in Rajpura town. In the raid, the team collected 10 food samples and sent them to the state testing lab to check adulteration.

Acting on the orders of the chairman, Tandurst Punjab Mission, District Health Department team led by the District Health Officer (DHO), Satinder Singh, raided two soda factories, milk dairy and a confectionary shop in Rajpura. 

In fact, the team had, firstly, raided Gupta Soda Factory and Mahavir Soda factory and collected samples of soda and cola. Thereafter, District Health Officer raided Harish Confectionery and collected samples of tomato sauce, bread, and rusk. During the raid,15 packets of bread, two boxes of rusk, and one box of biscuits were destroyed after the team detected that products had expired. 

However, the Health Department did not take any action or slapped any fine against the shopkeeper for selling the expired products. In the end, the team collected samples of milk, curd, and desi ghee from Khalsa Dairy. 

Health teams said samples would be sent to the laboratory and necessary action would be taken, accordingly.
