A fire broke out at a cloth showroom in Sector 70 here last night. The estimated loss is said to be around Rs 50 lakh as all items at the shop were destroyed in the fire.

Shop owner Padmanav Pradhan fell unconscious after he saw his shop engulfed in flames. He was immediately shifted to the Civil Hospital in Phase 6 here from where he was discharged after treatment. 

According to sources, the cause of fire could be a short circuit.

Earlier, three fire tenders were pressed into service, which took more than two hours to douse the flames. 

The Fire Department got information about the fire around 11 pm yesterday.

The shop owner’s neighbour noticed the fire and told him about it on phone.

The sources said Padmanav had invested around Rs 60 lakh in his business. 

The entire stock at the showroom has been burnt in the incident.
