Finally, crackdown on illegal cracker sellers at Kurali

Acting tough on illegal cracker sellers, the Mohali police booked nine persons, including son of the municipal council president, and the administration seized crackers worth several lakhs at Kurali today. 

The police registered a case under Section 188, IPC, against Malkit Singh, Kamaljit Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Roop Lal Walia, Dinesh Kumar, Inder Mohan Sharma (son of the municipal council president), Maninder Singh, Anuj Singh and Sunil Joshi. A team, headed by Kharar SDM Amaninder Kaur Brar, seized crackers worth several lakhs during a raid on illegal cracker sellers. The seized crackers were shifted to the local EO’s office in four tractor-trailers. 

The SDM, Amaninder Kaur Brar, said a list of seized crackers was being prepared. 

Earlier in the day, a joint team of administrative officers and the police, led by SDM Brar and DSP Deep Kamal, conducted raids on illegal cracker stalls who had put up stalls on the Chandigarh-Kurali Road and Kurali-Morinda Road here. 

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra said: “Our team removed at least 80 stalls and seized the items displayed on them,” said Sapra. 

Brar said the team also seized crackers from the shops which were closed by their owners on seeing the police. 

The administration has issued just four licences for cracker selling in Kurali whereas nearly 150 shopkeepers were seen doing business there yesterday. The Mohali police have not registered any case of bursting crackers in violation of the HC order.

The raids would continue tomorrow as well. “Strict action will be taken against violators,” said the Deputy Commissioner.
