A shocking case of alleged rape of a six-year-old girl by her father has come to light in Zirakpur.

The incident allegedly took place on Wednesday night. Based on a complaint of the victim’s mother, the police registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and under the POCSO Act against the accused father on Thursday, said Ajit Singh, investigating officer. The accused has been arrested.

The mother, who works as a domestic help, said they had four children. Her husband is a labourer.

She told the police that on Wednesday night, after having dinner, she, along with her four children, was sleeping in the room when her husband, in an inebriated state, came and started beating her up. She ran out of the house and called her neighbours.

The complainant said in the meantime, she heard her six-year-old screaming inside the room. She rushed back and saw the main door of their house bolted from inside and her minor daughter crying for help.

She said with the help of the neighbours, they broke open the door and the crime came to light. The investigating officer said the minor girl was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi.
