Farheen upsets Akash, Samar Bir ousts Aditya

CHANDIGARH:Gujarat’s Farheen S Patrawala stunned second seed Akash Deb of Assam 9-4 in the second round of the boys’ U-16 qualifiers on the opening day of the CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here on Saturday.

Gujarat’s Farheen S Patrawala stunned second seed Akash Deb of Assam 9-4 in the second round of the boys’ U-16 qualifiers on the opening day of the CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here on Saturday. 

Samar Bir Singh Sidhu of Punjab upset fourth seed Aditya Balda of Haryana 9-3, while fifth seed Himanshu Duhan overcame Shivdev Singh Walia of Haryana 9-8(2). Punjab’s Gurustat Singh Makkar drubbed Divanshu Hooda of Haryana 9-2. Lakshay Vivek Kumar humbled Parth Goel 9-5.

In the boys’ U-18 category, top seed Ayush Deshwal tamed Delhi’s Raj Goswami 9-1. Second seeded Chirag Duhan of Haryana registered a 9-4 win over Sarabjeet Singh Saini, while Karthik Singh Panwar of Delhi beat Odisha’s Abhishek Mohapatra 9-5. 

Fifth seed Akhilendran Indrabalan of Delhi defeated Gujarat’s Arjun A Kundu 9-4, while Delhi’s Mohammad Sameer edged out Shashwat Kohli 9-2 to advance to the next round. Manveer Singh defeated seventh seed Aakarshit Mahajan 9-4.

In the girls’ U-16 category, local contender Omisha Nishcal registered a 9-2 win over Vishita Ranbir Kumar in the opening round of the qualifiers. 

Haryana’s Anusha Verma thumped Ananya Dogra 9-3, while Milli Pandit mastered Bhumi Kakkar 9-2. Jaskirat Kaur downed Prabhleen Kaur Sekhon 9-4.
