Ex-serviceman murdered

PATIALA: Darshan Singh, a 55-year-old ex-serviceman, was allegedly murdered by two unidentified persons at his residence in Gazipur village in Samana.

Darshan Singh, a 55-year-old ex-serviceman, was allegedly murdered by two unidentified persons at his residence in Gazipur village in Samana. The miscreants also looted valuables from their house.

With an intention of robbery, two persons barged into their house late last  night and allegedly killed Darshan Singh, with sharp weapons and fled the spot, said the police.

The miscreants ransacked the house and took away valuables worth lakhs. They also attacked Gurmeet Kaur, wife of Darshan Singh.

Gurmeet Kaur was critically injured in the incident and has been admitted to the nearby Civil Hospital.

The body of Darshan Singh has been sent for post-mortem examination and investigations are on, said the police. A team of forensic experts and dog squads were sent to the spot.

Harmanpreet Singh, Station House Officer, Samana Sadar, said: “Two unidentified persons scaled the boundary wall and forcibly entered the house. The accused threatened Darshan Singh and his wife to hand over all valuables and gold jewellery in the house. When the couple refused to hand over the jewellery, the robbers attacked them with a sharp weapon.”

According to Gurmeet Kaur, both persons fled the spot in a car parked at a few distance from the house.

Darshan is survived by two sons and wife. Both his sons are in the Army.

Harvinder Singh Virk, Superintendent of Police (Investigation), said various teams had been formed and investigation was underway.

Deceased’s wife injured
