Chandigarh, December 5

The court of Special Judge (CBI) Dr Sushil Kumar Garg today awarded three-year imprisonment to a work inspector with the Estate Office in a graft case.

The court held Jagjit Kumar guilty under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 in the convict.

On March 20, 2013, the CBI had registered a case against Jagjit Kumar, work inspector, Estate Office, Sector 24, Chandigarh, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act on the complaint of Rajinder Kumar, a resident of Sector 24.

In the complaint, Rajinder had stated that Jagjit had demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 (Rs 15,000 each from him and his neighbour Vijay Kumar), in order to sort out the issue relating to a show-cause notice for misuse/subletting of their government accommodation.

Following the complaint, a trap was laid and sleuths of the CBI reached near the office of Jagjit Kumar. Complainant Rajinder, along with one shadow witness, entered his office.

After 10 minutes, the shadow witness came out of the office and gave signal to the team, which reached the office and caught the accused with the bribe money of Rs 15,000.

However, the accused was released on bail after he furnished bail bonds of Rs 50,000.
